The island of Hvar
The island of Hvar, which is in the middle-dalmatian archipelago, is the longest island in Croatia. Island Hvar has an area of 299,66km2, 269,2 km coast line and altitude of 628 m. Because of its pleasant climate, beautiful intact nature and many historical
and cultural monuments the island of Hvar has always been a well known
tourist destination all over the world. Famous american magazine "The
Traveller" has included island of Hvar among the 10 most beautiful
tourist destinations in the world.
Sucuraj
Sucuraj
is a small tourist and fishing village. It is situated on the eastern cape of
the island where the island Hvar comes very close to mainland. There are a
couple of restaurants, taverns, bars and markets, news-stand, souvenir-shop,
post office, infirmary, ATM, tourist-info office, hotel and car-camp, etc.
Sucuraj is the right place for those who really wish to rest far away from
noise and traffic. It is surrounded by the sea from 3 sides and it has many
beautiful beaches and bays.
The climate is very pleasant: the summers are long, hot and pleasantly dry.
The summer winds, “maestral” and “tramontana”, are pleasantly refreshing.
Swimming is possible from May to November.
All of this, including the private accommodation in apartments, pensions,
rooms, and holiday houses, you can find very near each other, so that you can
leave your car to rest as well. The main beach "Cesminica" is only
200m far from the center.
If you have your own boat, Sucuraj is a good harbour for it. Not far from
Sucuraj you can find beautiful beaches and bays where you can enjoy your
privacy. There are also ships at your service that make one day trips to
Makarska Riviera, peninsula Peljesac and island Korcula.
How to reach Sucuraj?
Sucuraj is situated on the
eastern cape of the island Hvar, where the island is only 3NM (5 km) far from mainland.
The closest place on mainland is Drvenik where the ferry boat leaves for
Sucuraj 5 times a day during the winter and 10-15 times (or more) during the
summer. The crossing lasts only 25 minutes.
Drvenik is situated on the coast of Makarska, 96 km SE from Split and 128 km NW from Dubrovnik.
You can also reach Sucuraj by ferry from Split to Stari Grad on the island
Hvar and then to Sucuraj by car but this way is much longer and more
expensive. Sucuraj is 77 km far from town of Hvar, 60 km from Stari Grad and 50 km from Jelsa.
